Wildebeest

INTRODUCTION

Wildebeest, also called gnu are antelopes of the genus Connochaetes and native to Eastern and Southern Africa.

They belong to the family Bovidae, which includes true antelopes, cattle, goats, sheep, and other even-toed horned ungulates. There are two species of wildebeest: the black wildebeest or white-tailed gnu, and the blue wildebeest or brindled gnu.

THE HUNTING

The poor man’s Buffalo or wildebeest is a tough, strong animal. When shot they seem to get stronger and their strong hind legs often are said to get stronger. Precision shots are very important when hunting these animals. Especially after the typically long stalk to get into range with out the herd seeing the hunter.

The wildebeest  is known for their strength and ability to absorb bullets. It is often said by professional hunters that “a Wildebeest gets stronger everytime you shoot them”. Traveling in large herds it takes impressive stalking abilities to get in for the vital shot.
