Eland

Eland

INTRODUCTION

The common or southern eland is a large antelope found in Southern and Eastern Africa. It is the second largest antelope in the world behind the giant/ Lord Derby’s Eland. Avoiding dense forests the eland prefers open areas with plenty of grasses and leaves. Eland tend to live in large herds, some touching upwards of 500!

There are a few characteristics of a true trophy eland- their straight, thick and rigid horns. Their dewlap that runs from their neck to their chest. And the “mop” of hair on their forehead just under the horns.

THE HUNTING

Eland love open grass areas making hunting the eland very difficult. Lots of walking and low crawling to get into a great shot position. This is a fun hunt for a large tough antelope
